The Portpatrick Harbour Community Benefit Society became the very first "Community Benefit Society" in Scotland to achieve both FCA registration and full Charitable status with the Scottish charity regulator OSCR in July 2015 and go on to raise Community shares.

This was achieved with the fantastic support and guidance provided by Community share Scotland, Cooperatives UK, Social investment Scotland and Third Sector Dumfries & Galloway and subsequently gave the community of Portpatrick the oportunity to save the harbour from a parlous situation.

The Portpatrick Harbour Community Benefit Society's main aims are to secure the integrity and appearance of the historic harbour of Portpatrick for the benefit of the Community and all who love and visit it.

The harbour lies at the heart of the village and is as important to Portpatrick as the village green is to many other communities throughout Britain.

The Portpatrick harbour Community Benefit Society in combination with Community share Scotland raised a community share offer in September 2015 which provided all who love the village of Portpatrick with the opportunity to purchase community shares in the harbour thus supporting and securing the future of this unspoiled idyllic asset for many years to come.

The share offer saw huge interest and subsequently sold out within only three weeks of opening, giving the Society an active membership of over 550 members/shareholders.

The Society now actively strives to further achieve it's objectives, securing and enhancing the harbour for the benefit of all.
