As most people in the village and surrounding area will be aware the local pub has been on the market for some time, and with the increasing number of closures of village pubs elsewhere, concern has been expressed as to its future.
Like most rural communities, no one wants to see the loss of an important mainstay of village life, and as a result The Ballantrae Trust Board is actively looking at the feasibility of purchasing the King`s Arms for the community. To that end the Trust has applied for funding to carry out the required preliminary surveys (valuation/condition/feasibility etc) needed to progress further. We hope to hear in April if we have secured this initial funding.
If we are successful and the surveys are favourable, then there will be a full public consultation with the local community about whether there is support for the “buy option”. Only then will we decide whether to apply for the necessary funding for the actual purchase.
This, as you will appreciate, is likely to be a fairly lengthy process and as such the Trust Board will keep you informed of any significant developments.
At this stage the main concern is the continuation of the King`s Arms as an important “hub” for the village. It is worth saying however, we do not envisage competing with any future prospective private buyer who shares this aim.
