Stinchar Cottage, Ballantrae

Originally the toll cottage for the old bridge over the River Stinchar this cottage is situated at the edge of the friendly village of Ballantrae with the shop and pub within easy walking distance.   The cottage is within a historic conservation area and has been completely and uniquely renovated. There is a pretty garden which slopes down to the river between the old and new bridges. From the garden there is direct access on to the river path which is a great favourite for dogs. This south-facing cottage looks straight on to the river and across the countryside to the sea.   Stinchar Cottage features a large galleried living room with a double height pitched ceiling revealing the limed wood roof timbers, really comfortable sofa and chairs, a dining and kitchen area and a cosy wood-burning stove. From the main door you enter through a utilty area with pegs for coats and a separate cloakroom. At the far end of the sitting room there is a double bedroom with king size bed and en-suite shower room with a huge shower. The open-plan simple gallery room (for two) has twin beds and is reached by a retractable ladder from the sitting room – some nimbleness is required and it is not suitable for children under 8 or the elderly.
